Carl Ross, Adviser

Hello, I'm Mr. Ross, the Chieftain Yearbook Advisor, Video Production teacher and Esports coach. I earned my bachelor's degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, and an associates degree in Audio Production Technology from Mesa Community College. I am Apple certified in Final Cut Pro and Adobe certified in Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects. I was an editor, videographer, voice talent, and musician at Educational Television from 2006 - 2012 and have worked for Mesa Public Schools since 2004. I began teaching at Westwood in 2012 and have been here ever since.

If you take one of my video or digital publications courses you can expect to learn real world skills that you can use in any job environment in the future, and hopefully have a good time while doing it. All of my classes have a focus on hands on learning, working with technology, and communication. You will be either working on productions that the whole school will see, like our news broadcasts or yearbook, or building the skills that you will need to work on them. My students also compete in various competitions throughout the district and state and typically do very well. In 2017 we received the student production award for best newscast from the Rocky Mountain Emmy's.
