On March 31st. Several students went on a field trip to see Scottsdale Community College’s school of film and theater, named one of the best film schools in the nation, according to MovieMaker and Variety, where they were given a tour of several buildings. Some of the buildings include their studio, a set for a student film, a classroom where they were shown examples of student-made films, the software they use, and several other buildings.
One of the first buildings that the group was given a tour of was the storage and repair room, where they stored their equipment, which they allow students to rent for their films, with many students being amazed at the amount of equipment with some noting “I was really impressed with what I saw there, they had over 2 million dollars worth of equipment,” said Staten Blake.
In that same room was their small desk where they repair their cameras and other equipment, some of which cost around $30,000 each.
Near the end of the tour, some of the students, if wanting to, were allowed to take turns operating one of the aforementioned $30,000 cameras to get a feel for one of the many pieces of equipment that professional filmmakers use in the highest quality of productions. One student who operated the camera expressed that “The interest was mild at first; it just seemed cool at the time. But afterwards, when I began reflecting, I was very excited,” said Josiyah Hunt.
