You may be wondering, what’s The Emo Trinity? Well, to enlighten you, The Emo Trinity is a term for 3 bands which were very popular, being My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! At The Disco.
These 3 bands were quite popular in the 2000’s, and were quite popular in the alternative scene. Despite being called The Emo Trinity, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco were much more pop-punk.
My Chemical Romance (MCR) was started due to the lead singer and co-founder, Gerard Way, witnessed 9/11 firsthand. The name of the band was suggested by Gerard’s younger brother, Mikey Way. Other members of the band are Frank Iero (Rhythm Guitarist and Backup Vocalist), Mikey Way (Bassist), and Ray Toro (Lead Guitarist). Another founder of MCR was Matt Pelissier, who used to be the drummer. He was kicked out and replaced by Bob Bryar, who later left and was replaced by Jarrod Alexander.
Fall Out Boy (FOB) was founded by Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman. Members of the band are Pete Wentz (Bass Guitar), Patrick Stump (Lead Singer), Joe Trohman (Lead Guitar), and Andy Hurley (Drums). Past members are Mike Pareskuwicz, Brandon Hamm, Ben Rose, and T.J. “Raccine” Kunasch. FOB was formed because Pete and Joe wanted to create something more pop-punky after already being in a few bands together. Pete was also friends with the other 2 bands, especially Mikey from MCR.
Panic! at the Disco (P!ATD) was founded by Ryan Ross (Guitar) and Spencer Smith (Drums), who recruited their classmates Brendon Urie (Vocals and Guitar) and Brent Wilson (Bass). Wilson ended up being fired and being replaced by Jon Walker (Bass). After the bands first album, Ryan (called Ryro by fans) wanted to make more albums and songs like The Beatles, leading to the second album. Brendon didn’t agree, having to Ryan and Brendon fall out due to creative differences. Ryan left the band in 2009, being replaced by Dallon Weekes. Ryan and Jon left to form a new band, called “The Young Veins.” After Spencer, Brendon, and Dallon made a third and fourth album, Spencer left due to health and drug related problems. Brendon and Dallon being the remaining members, recruited Kenneth Harris (Guitar) and Dan Pawlovich (Drums). In 2017, Weekes ended up leaving and being replaced by Nicole Row. After Dallon left, he went to shift his focus on his solo project, “I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME” (iDKHOW). After the falling out of Brendon and Ryan, a fan got a hold of Ryans info, pretending to be Brendon and reconnect with Ryan. Once Ryan found out that who he thought was Brendon, wasn’t Brendon, he fell into a deep depression and lost a lot of trust in others, which also ruined his relationship with Brendon even more.
Even if these bands didn’t quite classify as “Emo’, people who were and are emo still like them and listen to them, simply because they were good.
