A few months after Scream 6 was released around March of 2023 and became the biggest Scream film in the franchise surpassing Scream 2’s domestic US box office record of over $100 million and became the highest-grossing Scream film in the US and Canada. It was announced that Scream 7 was in development and would serve as a sequel for Scream 6 and complete the trilogy for Scream 5,6, & 7. It was also announced that Christopher Landon would direct it, Christopher is also known for directing horror movies as well, some of his works are a few of the Paranormal Activity movies and its series PA: Next Of Kin, Happy death day 1 & 2, and Disturbia. Unfortunately…
Back around in early May to late September of 2023
Around in New York and multiple other locations, the Writers Guild of America (or the WGA) which represent around 11,500 screenwriters and SAG-AFTRA which is a union for actors, went on strike over a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (or AMPTP). The strike lasted for over 4 months and caused a lot of delays for many movies and series, including Scream 7 which made production slow down and get pushed away. But yet again with bad news that cause Scream 7 to be pushed back even further…
Around in late November of 2023
The actor Melissa Barrera who played the main character Sam Carpenter in both Scream 5 and 6, was fired from the film after posting on social media supporting Palestine during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war which the producers interpreted it as “antisemitic”. And the following day after Melissa was fired, the actor Jenna Ortega who played Sam’s sister Tara Carpenter unfortunately dropped out as well due to schedule conflicts with the Netflix Original series “Wednesday” in which she stars as Wednesday, and another reason is due to salary disputes with Spyglass Media Group. It was reportedly said that the screenwriters Vanderbilt and Busick had to start from scratch due to the conflicts that happened. A month later on December 23rd, Christopher Landon announced that we left Scream 7 weeks ago and is no longer directing it, but with some hopeful news that came earlier this year…
Around in March of 2024
The actor Neve Campbell who plays Sidney Prescott the main character in Scream 1-4, posted on Instagram announcing that she will be returning to reprise her role in Scream 7 since she wasn’t able to appear in the 6th film due to salary disputes. In other words, Kevin Williamson who wrote and produced a majority of the Scream films said he would return to direct a script that was made by Busick and Radio Silence who worked on Scream 5 and 6 would return as well as executive producers. With this news, most of the community had mixed opinion’s about how the film would play out since Scream 5 and 6 are now just left on a unfinished story, most think that this will be whole reboot or it will be the start of a new trilogy.
With other news…
Along with all of the news in March, Courtney Cox who plays Gale Weathers was said to return as well by post shown of her training to get in shape for the film. Along with Neve, she had interviewed with some news outlets and has said multiple things about the film saying that the will be some old faces and new faces coming to the film and that the film has a concept that it will be a Sidney focused film, possibly focusing on her and her family as well. While there isn’t that much news or info being put out, hopefully we will have more once they start filming reportedly around in December of this year. With that we’ll just have to wait and see what will truly happen and how Scream 7 will play out when it possibly releases around in 2025 or early 2026.
