This week, you may have seen people decked out in pink throughout campus. From the pink Game Day shirts to the auction hosted at our girls’ volleyball game, our warriors have done a great job raising awareness for breast cancer this month! This October, Westwood decided not only to raise awareness but also to help one of our own.
Last year, our very own Mrs. Kathryn Rowland was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment as the cancer has spread to other areas of her body. Mrs. Rowland has been a math teacher at Westwood for the past four years and is one of the best Warriors on campus. She misses her students dearly as she undergoes treatment and we hope to see her back on campus very soon.
This year our girls’ volleyball teamed up to raise money for breast cancer in a very special auction. All proceeds were donated to Mrs. Rowland. Our warriors donated all kinds of things like baskets, gift cards, electronics, and more! During the volleyball game on Tuesday, October 22 we had an amazing turnout. Everyone came to not only support Mrs. Rowland but also see our warriors sporting pink jerseys and playing an exciting game against Mesa High School. Unfortunately, although our warriors fought hard they ended up losing in five sets. Overall, it was an outstanding game with a beautiful atmosphere and an even better cause!
