!!WARNING THIS GAME HAS GRAPHIC DETAILS IN IT!!
Doki Doki Literature Club, or DDLC as it’s known online, starts like any ordinary role-playing game. In the game, your childhood friend, Sayori, convinces you to join the club she’s in, but there’s one thing she forgot to mention: it’s a literature club with all girls.
The club leader is Monika; she’s nice and cheerful, but she oddly wants all of your attention. Then there’s Sayori, your childhood best friend. Now we have Yuri, who is very quiet and mostly just reads books in the corner. Lastly, we have Natsuki; she is very outgoing but also very mean.
The game starts off like a normal simulator, with nothing abnormal about it, until one day your friend, Sayori, isn’t at school. You decide to go to her house, slowly open the door to her bedroom, and see a horrific sight. The next day, you go to the literature club, and it seems normal, but there is one thing: everyone seems to have completely forgotten Sayori. You try and try to get them to remember, but nobody does. The game continues on, but Monika’s behavior is slowly becoming chaotic. It seems she knows that you’re not just a character in the game; you’re a person behind a screen, and it is horrifying. After all of these events, all the characters are slowly becoming scary and deranged.
!! SPOILER ALERT !!
I won’t get into graphic detail, but Yuri and Sayori both pass away in a horrific way. When you finally reach the end of the game, Monika transports you to a room floating in the sky, “away from everyone.” She then tells you that she knows you are in a different reality from her and that she has technically trapped you in this floating room until she can find a way to “come to our reality” so she can be with you forever. This game is supposed to be a psychological horror, and I think it perfectly matches this description.
